About Us

A Rich History
Founded in 1948, SPK Branch 20 Toronto has deep roots in the post-World War II efforts of Polish veterans who settled in Canada. The servicemen and women of SPK were drawn from every front of the Allied war effort: the 1st Polish Armored Division, 2nd Polish Corps, the 1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade, the Home Army (AK), the Polish Air Force, and many others.
The Polish-Canadian veterans who formed the backbone of Branch 20 served bravely on battlefields and in hospitals; the exploits of heroism were shared equally among men and women of the Home Army and the Allied Forces in the West. They continued fighting bravely right to the end of the War – for your freedom, and ours – even when it became painfully clear that the Allied leadership had bartered away Poland’s freedom to Jozef Stalin’s murderous empire. SPK was a natural outgrowth of Polish combatants who, unable to return to their homeland after the war due to Soviet occupation, established a new life in Canada and fought to preserve Poland’s true history, faith, and culture.
Over the decades, Branch 20 has grown to become a vibrant part of Toronto’s Polish community, offering support and connection to veterans and their families, as well as promoting Polish cultural traditions.
